TITLE: Janitor/Housekeeping (part-time) - Northeast Family Service Center
TITLE OF SUPERVISOR: Office Manager - Northeast Family Service Center
ORGANIZATIONAL UNIT: Catholic Social Services
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for ensuring the cleanliness of offices, bathrooms, hallways and common rooms within the Northeast Family Services Center. Maintains adequate janitorial supply inventory. Performs minor maintenance duties. Provide safety and security inspections of facility and grounds. Work is generally routine, most tasks are well defined, but with considerable variation; some phases of the work are less well defined and may require independent action.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs daily cleaning services to both inside and outside the facility, sweep and
vacuum throughout office building; mop floors when needed, dust all furniture in
lobby when needed, make sure lobby area is neat and presentable,
cleans and sanitizes bathrooms daily; mops bathrooms at least twice a week;
maintains cleanliness of exterior premises; dust woodwork and keep windows
cleaned.
- Maintains adequate inventory of janitorial/housekeeping supplies, tools and
equipment. Notifies Supervisor of items needed. Maintains neat and orderly supply
room and storage room; keeps tools and equipment clean and in working order.
3 . Empties waste baskets and trash cans daily; ensures that all trash is placed in
receptacle and is placed outside for collections at scheduled times.
- Performs minor maintenance duties to facility and grounds (e.g. replacing light bulbs,
hanging curtains, etc.) Applies problem solving skills to ensure seasonal work
(e.g. snow shoveling, ice melting, installing/removing air conditioners, installing
window screens/storm windows, etc.) is completed in a timely fashion.
- Notifies Supervisor of major maintenance needs (e.g. plumbing, electrical, etc.).

- Ensures that entire facility, including gates, is locked and secured prior to end of shift.
Performs daily security inspections of facility and grounds.
- Assist in special arrangements for parties, meetings and special events at center, such
as setting up tables and chairs and cleaning up.
- Make pick-ups; receives and store deliveries as needed.
- Maintain a positive and professional relationship with co-workers, visitors, vendors,
consultants, children and parents.
- Performs other duties and tasks as assigned by Supervisor.
REPRESENTATIVE KNOWLEDGE/SKILSS/ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of and orientation to the philosophy of the Agency as presented in the Mission Statement.
- Requires a minimum of a high school diploma or G.E.D. certification.
- Experience in providing institutional janitorial service.
- Ability to lift/carry weighted materials in excess of 50 pounds.
- Knowledge and adherence to Universal Precautions procedures.
- Ability to perform minor maintenance procedures.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Driver's license and own transportation
- Ability to acclimate well to changing tasks and priorities.
- Ability to establish and maintain a positive and professional relationship with co-workers, clients, and visitors; cultural sensitivity and ability to relate well and effectively in a diverse workplace and with a diverse client population.
