Coffee House Supervisor (Weekdays)

Non-Exempt, Full Time (40 hours)

St. John's Hospice 


In a manner consistent with the values and mission of St. John's Hospice and Catholic Social Services, the Coffee House Supervisor provides overall management of the St. John's Hospice Coffee House program, and supervises evening staff in the monitoring of the residential program.  Coordinate with city Caf programs regarding client admissions each evening.  The supervisor monitors clients, and attempts to engage clients in an effort to direct them to support from SJH staff and other programs.


  • Supervise operation of Coffee House program from Monday evenings through Saturday mornings
  • Admit clients to Coffee House
  • Coordinate with Kitchen to provide beverages and food to distribute to clients
  • Monitor male clients within garage, basement, shower area, dining room, and dorms
  • Monitor residential program
  • Ensure that all forms are completed by Coffee House and RA staff
  • Coordinate with city regarding Coffee House client list, and send census reports regularly
  • Attempt to engage each client to assess significant immediate needs
  • Refer clients to appropriate services, including those provided by the Day Services Case Manager or outside agencies
  • Advise Social Services Supervisor on clients who might be appropriate for possible admission to residential program
  • Supervise 11-7 RA and Coffee House Aide in the performance of their duties
  • Coordinate Coffee House services and policies with Weekend Coffee House Supervisor
  • Communicate with Operations Manager so that Coffee House program is coordinated effectively with larger SJH program
  • Assist RA and Coffee House Aide as necessary
  • Handle emergency situations
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Basic computer, email, and typing skills
  • Good communications skills


  • High School diploma or equivalent


  • 2-5 years experience working with special needs population; prefer knowledge of homelessness, substance abuse, and mental health issues
  • Supervisory experience preferred


  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, climb stairs, operate controls, reach out with hands, occasionally lift objects up to 50 lbs
