The Schools of Special Education strive to develop the whole child - spiritually, academically, emotionally, and physically. The schools exist to nurture children, continue the instruction of our Catholic faith, and promote independence; and this community requires an exceptional instructional leader. The Transition Advocate works with the principals of each school to provide advocacy both financially and academically.  The qualified candidate will be able to partner with the Special Education team of professionals to advocate for students and their families, attract new resources to the school and continue its tradition of excellence.

The four schools of special education serve students with varying diagnosis of a disability.  Both OLC and SKS serve students with intellectual disabilities and students with autism located in Willow Grove and Wynnewood respectively.  SKS also serves students with multiple disabilities.  ARS and SLS are located on the Holy Innocents campus in Philadelphia and participate with inclusion classes with Holy Innocent school. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Understands PA Special Education Law, IDEA and how FAPE is applied to private schools, equitable participation, dual enrollment, settlement agreements, and district's issuing NOREPs for private placements
  • Ability to assist families in navigating public school systems and educational options for families through the review of evaluations, development of IEP, and understanding the needs of the student and what is appropriate/ needed
  • Understanding LRE and placements on the continuum of least restrictive, working knowledge of the local school districts and what can be provided through their programing, and helping parents determine the appropriate placement by gathering data and reviewing education record
  • Understanding funding sources for programing including private pay, district pay, support from the intermediate units through EP 
  • Transitional Supports - Additional Responsibilities 
  • Extended school year (ESY) eligibility and options for the student, securing


  • Supports schools in developing and implementing IEPs and transition plans that facilitate seamless services
  • Collaborates with external stakeholders, inclusive of city and

 state agencies, community agencies, post-secondary service providers

  • Ensures relevant resources and information pertaining to community living, employment and postsecondary education/training reach
  • Supports work on state-level monitoring and review activities on transition planning and ongoing data to support future grant proposals
  • Attends IEP and other meetings as needed to ensure follow through and consistency of programing
  • Maintains accurate student records; responsible for assigned data collection to inform decision making

Other Requirements:

  • Master's Degree in Special Education or related education field.
  • Pennsylvania Certification in Special Education or related field.
  • Administrative leadership experience and certification preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to engage all members of the community faculty, children, families and benefactors for full involvement.
  • High degree of flexibility.
  • Technologically proficient.

This position is full-time, 12-month position with an excellent benefit package.

PA required clearances and Safe Environment Certification in addition to official transcripts will be required before employment can begin.
