Title: Program Coordinator

Department: Senior Centers

Primary Purpose of Job:

The primary purpose of this position is to be responsible for the activities and programs offered at the senior center

Essential Job Functions:

  • Plans, organizes, implements and evaluates all activities within the senior center.
  • Participate and/or facilitate advisory council meetings, town meetings, suggestion solicitation as directed by the Senior Center Manager.
  • Responsible to meet service objectives related to the senior center program and keep Senior Center Manager updated.
  • Responsible for the fiscal management of the senior center program including the preparation of an income budget and spending plan for the Senior Center Manager's review.
  • Coordinate all aspects of the congregate meal program.
  • Supervise senior center aides, students, and volunteers as directed by the manager.
  • Provide orientation and training for senior center aides, students, and volunteers as directed by the Senior Center Manager.
  • Maintain appropriate food service, CPR, and other required certifications.
  • Assume responsibility for day to day operation in the absence of the senior center manager.
  • Assure adherence to all policy and procedures related to the senior center's operation.
  • Prepares monthly newsletter and other outreach materials to distribution to promote the senior center under the direction of the Senior Center Manager.
  • Consults with and works with Center Counselor to meet special needs of center participants.
  • Prepares and maintains PCA reports, internal reports and all documentation in compliance with PCA Senior Center Standards.
  • Maintain confidentiality of participant information in accord with confidentiality policy, professional standards and other regulations.
  • Adheres to established policies and procedures for Community Based Services for Seniors and Catholic Health Care Services at all times.
  • Demonstrates high standards of attendance and reports to work on time.

Other Job Functions:

  • Responsible to implement the Mission and Philosophy of the organization within the scope of responsibility.
  • Work independently with a high degree of tact, discretion and professionalism.
  • Work collaboratively and cooperatively with Catholic Human Service entities and other community groups.
  • Develop and maintain a good working rapport with interdepartmental personnel, other departments and partners of the program to assure that all services and activities can be adequately maintained to meet the needs of the participant.
  • Attend, participate and complete continuing educational programs designed to keep the Program Coordinators abreast of changes in senior center programming and safe meal service.
  • Comply with current senior center operational requirements as outlined by CHCS/CSS, PCA, State Department on Aging, and local Department of Health.
  • Work with fiscal departments and Senior Center Manager to insure compliance with PCA directives and specific contractual and grant requirements.
  • Treat all staff, participants, residents and visitors with dignity and respect.
  • Submit data, participant satisfaction surveys, and program evaluation as it relates to Quality Assurance and contractual guidelines.
  • Participate in marketing and outreach to build the senior center participant base.
  • Assist the Senior Center Manager in administrative matters as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.



  • Minimum of a Bachelor Degree from an accredited university in Recreational Therapy, Social Work or related field.


  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in the field of aging
  • Experience is developing programs and activities for seniors

Physical Requirements (With or without the aid of mechanical devices)

  • Sit, stand, bend, lift and move intermittently during work hours.
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull and move equipment, supplies, etc. up to 50 lbs.

Work Environment

  • Must function independently and have flexibility, personal integrity and the ability to work effectively with participants, personnel and other agencies.
  • Must be able to work with older adults in a community setting respectful of their right to self-determination.
  • Is subject to frequent interruptions.
  • Is involved with participants, personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc., under all circumstances and conditions.
